Porcelain Benchtops Auckland

The most UV and heat stable surface we supply — indoors, and out in the Auckland sun.

Porcelain benchtop surface detail

Porcelain has become the default answer for Auckland outdoor kitchens, and it is increasingly specified indoors for its slim profiles and hard-wearing surface. Architectural Stone Co fabricates and installs porcelain benchtops from our Wairau Valley plant.

Porcelain is non-porous, so it needs no sealing, resists staining, and holds its colour under direct sunlight far better than most alternatives. That combination is exactly what an Auckland alfresco kitchen demands.

Where porcelain works best

  • Outdoor kitchens, BBQ benches and poolside bars
  • Indoor kitchen benchtops with very slim edge profiles
  • Full-height splashbacks with book-matched patterning
  • High-traffic commercial counters and café fitouts
  • Bathroom vanities and shower surrounds

Living with porcelain

Two things to know. First, no sealing is required — cleaning is straightforward and our care guide covers the products to use and avoid. Second, edges deserve respect: a heavy impact on an edge can chip porcelain, and unlike stone those chips are not always repairable.

Never cut directly on any benchtop surface — use a board. And while porcelain handles heat far better than engineered stone, a trivet is still the sensible habit.

Brands and fabrication guidelines

We work with the leading porcelain brands available in New Zealand, and each one publishes its own fabrication manual. We follow the manufacturer's guidelines for the brand you select — those manuals, along with warranty documents, are available to read and download from our technical resources section.

Common questions

Is porcelain good for an outdoor kitchen in Auckland?

Porcelain is the most UV and heat stable surface we supply, which makes it the usual choice for outdoor kitchens, BBQ benches and poolside bars.

Can porcelain chip?

Edges are the vulnerable point. Strong impacts around the edge can cause chips that are not always repairable, so take particular care there.

Does porcelain need sealing?

No. Porcelain is non-porous and does not require the annual resealing that natural stone does.

Are fabrication rules the same for every porcelain brand?

No. Each manufacturer prescribes slightly different fabrication guidelines, so we follow the design guide or fabrication manual for the brand you choose. Those manuals are on our technical resources pages.
